But they delight in the law of the Lord,
meditating on it day and night.
They are like trees planted along the riverbank,
bearing fruit each season.
Their leaves never wither,
and they prosper in all they do. Psalm 1:2-3
Well, it looks like things are falling into place for me whether I want them to or not. I was put on “bed rest” today and my doctor wants me to sleep as much as possible. I get to send my children to the daycare and sleep all day, doctor’s orders! What fun! (I’m half way depressed about it though, believe it or not.)
So, thought I’ve been rather sporadic lately, it may be that I become a little more sporadic until after this baby comes. Please bear with me and do enjoy my previous posts…I look forward to writing daily again, whenever that will be…As for now, here are the notes associated with these two verses from my study bible, NLT-Life Application Study Bible.
Notes on verse 2
You can learn how to follow God by thinking about his Word. This means spending time reading and thinking about what you have read. It means asking yourself how you should change so you’re living as God wants. Knowing and thinking about God’s word are the first steps toward applying it to your everyday life. If you want to follow God more closely, you must know what he says.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This “law” means all of Scripture: the first five books of Moses, the Prophets, and the other writings. The more we know of the whole scope of God’s Word, the more resources we will have to guide us in our daily decisions.
Note on verses 2, 3
There is simple wisdom in these two verses: The more we delight in obeying God, the more fruitful we are. On the other hand, the more we allow those who ridicule God to affect our thoughts and attitudes, the more we separate ourselves from our sourceof nourishment. We must have contact with unbelievers if we are to witness to them, but we must not join in our imitate their sinful behavior. If you want despair, spend time with mocking sinners; but if you want God’s blessing, make friends with those who love God and his Word.
Note on verse 3
When Scripture says, “In all they do, they prosper,” it does not mean immunity to failure or difficulties. Nor is it a guarantee of health, wealth, and happiness. What the Bible means by prosperity is this: When we apply God’s wisdom, the fruit (results or by-products) we bear will be good and receive God’s approval. Just as a tree soaks up water and bears luscious fruit, we also are to soak up God’s Word, producing actions and attitudes that honor God. To achieve anything worthwhile, we must have God’s Word in our hearts.
So, I’m going to do a lot of resting and a lot of meditating on scriptures for a while. I’ll sneak out whenever I can and write, but I won’t promise anything…Pray for me, my baby and a safe labor and delivery. (By the way, I’m not due until July 24th.) Also, please continue praying for the healing of my marriage and the spiritual growth of both myself and my husband. Thank you for your prayers and your continued support of me and my blog.
Search me, O God, and know my heart, test me and know my anxious thoughts. Point out anything in me that offends you, and lead me along the path of everlasting life. Psalm 139:23-24 I give my body to You because of all You have done for me. Let my body be a living and holy sacrifice – the kind you will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship You. I won’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but I will let You transform me into a new person by changing the way I think. Then I will learn to know Your will for me, which is good and pleasing and perfect. Romans 12:1-2 Amen.
May God provide the increase
I’m glad the Dr is looking out for you by putting you to bed but that means we can’t meet for lunch. 😦 Maybe finally you can get that much needed rest! And be prepared for the little one’s arrival! I hope you can “sneak away” quite often because we’ll all miss your posts! Or maybe hook your lap top up at home. You could just lay there and blog away! 🙂 You will now have time to fulfill Psalms 1:2 meditating day and night!!! “But they delight in the law of the Lord, meditating on it day and night.” God bless you! We’ll be praying. Does that mean we won’t see you tonight?
Well, I think the biggest thing is the doc wants me to rest and sleep, there is no other real medical reason for it. Maybe if I’m feeling rested we could meet for lunch some time…it would be nice.
Things are much improved between my husband and myself, praise God!
I’m so glad things are getting better for you. Let me know when and where and we’ll meet for lunch. I wanted to talk to you at church yesterday and see if you all could come for lunch but you got away before I could get to you. 🙂 Are the kids still wth you? Larissa came Sat and spent the night with us so I had to take her back to Indy Sun evening.
Blessings!!!
My husband and I met you the other weekend at RB’s, you have been in my prayers ever since. You are an encouragement to me. Keep shining your light and love for Jesus. He has promised to work all things together for His good. He knows the plans He has for you! What a blessing. You will be blessed by remaining faithful to Him and your husband. Praying for a quick and healthy delivery of your baby.
Thanks! I’m glad to encourage others and enjoy their encouragement too. It was nice being with you and your family at RB’s house. Maybe next time it won’t be so hectic and we can all spend a little more time talking w/ my husband there. Please enjoy my site. Some of it is uplifting and some of it is downtrodden. I simply write what I feel. But the ultimate goal is that God is glorified!
Can you believe you’ve reached the 15,000 mark! CONGRATULATIONS!!! I keep checking every day hoping to find you there. 🙂 Trust and pray you are feeling ok and getting lots of badly needed rest!!!! God is still in control!
Love ya,
Hey,
I just talked to Y tonight and she told me you just had another little one!! I hope your feeling well after your “birth”day! Feel my prayer on your behalf. Love R & K
